Add, move, or import contacts - Android (2024)

You can save names, email addresses, phone numbers, and more in Google Contacts.

Contacts saved to your Google Account will sync withGoogle Contacts and all your Android devices.

Add a contact

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Contacts appAdd, move, or import contacts - Android (1).
  2. At the bottom right, tap Add Add, move, or import contacts - Android (2).
  3. Enter the contact’s name and an email or phone number.
    • To pick the account where you want to save the contact:Next to your email account, tap the Down arrow Add, move, or import contacts - Android (3).
    • To add more name details: Next to "Name," tap the Down arrow Add, move, or import contacts - Android (4).
    • To add a photo: At the top, tap Add picture. Capture or select a picture, then tap Choose.
    • To enter more information, like a street address or notes: Tap More fields.
  4. When you're finished, tap Save.

Import contacts

You can add all your contacts to a Google Account. After you import, the contacts are still in your other account.

From a SIM card

If you have a SIM card with contacts saved on it, you can import them to your Google Account.

  1. Insert the SIM card into your device.
  2. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Contacts app Add, move, or import contacts - Android (5).
  3. At the bottom, tap Fix & manage Add, move, or import contacts - Android (6)Import from SIM.
  4. If you have multiple accounts on your device, pick the account where you want to save the contacts.

From a VCF file

If you’ve saved contacts to a VCF file, you can import them to your Google Account.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Contacts appAdd, move, or import contacts - Android (7).
  2. At the bottom, tap Fix & manage Add, move, or import contacts - Android (8)Import from file.
  3. If you have multiple accounts on your device, pick the account where you want to save the contacts.
  4. Find and select the VCF file to import.

Move a contact

You can move a contact from other accounts into a Google Account.

Moving a contact deletes it from the original account.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Contacts app Add, move, or import contacts - Android (9).
  2. Select a contact.
  3. At the top right, tap Menu Add, move, or import contacts - Android (10) Add, move, or import contacts - Android (11) Move to another account
  4. Choose the Google Account you want to move the contact to.
