How can I increase my chances of getting a bursary? ›

The Motsepe Foundation extends bursaries to South African students hailing from disadvantaged backgrounds, who demonstrate a strong commitment to pursuing studies in STEM fields associated with Agriculture, Arts, Business Studies, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, Science, and Medical Studies.

Having a bursary can also give students access to opportunities. These include vacation work, additional emotional or professional support and even graduate programme placements once they complete their degrees.

Make sure you use a professional tone and keep your letter short and to the point. Include details like who you are, what you want to study, why you want to study it, what qualities will help you succeed in your studies and what you see yourself doing when you graduate.

Tell about your important life experiences, your activities in school, your community involvement, volunteer work and what you've learned from these experiences. Emphasize any responsibilities you have had or awards you have received. Answer any questions the scholarship committee wants to know about you.

If you apply to more scholarships, you will increase your chances of winning a scholarship. Often students dislike smaller scholarships and essay competitions. But these scholarships are less competitive, so they are easier to win. Small scholarships do add up and may make it easier to win bigger awards.

The Motsepe Foundation provides funding for a variety of causes, including education, health, entrepreneurial activities, job creation, and poverty alleviation.

Clubs in the premier division receive monthly grants of R2. 5-million and before the start of every season they get a once-off R5. 5-million preparatory grant.

A Student merit bursary is regarded as a first payment towards fees. No Application is required as students are identified by using the Applicable Rules/Criteria. The student must achieve a Weighted Average academic performance which is determine per faculty: Faculty of Arts – 75%
