Gaza Peace Summit: Trump, al-Sisi, and World Leaders Unite for a New Era of Stability (2026)

In a dramatic turn of events, two world leaders are set to chair a summit that could shape the future of the Gaza Strip and the Middle East. But will this meeting bring lasting peace or is it just a temporary truce?

Former US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi will lead a high-profile peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on Monday, joined by an impressive roster of global leaders. The goal? To bring an end to the devastating war in Gaza, a conflict that has claimed the lives of over 67,000 Palestinians, primarily civilians.

The summit comes on the heels of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, brokered after intense negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh. This agreement also includes a prisoner-swap deal, facilitated by mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, with the US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner playing a pivotal role.

The ceasefire has allowed thousands of Palestinians to return to what remains of their homes in Gaza. "It is an indescribable feeling; praise be to God," shared Nabila Basa, a Palestinian woman who trekked back with her daughter, injured during the war. But the reality is grim for many. Ahmed al-Jabari, a resident of Gaza City, stood amidst the rubble of his home, destroyed in the relentless bombardment. "Where will we go?" he asked, highlighting the immense humanitarian crisis.

The summit aims to build on the ceasefire, striving for a more permanent peace. It will be attended by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. French President Emmanuel Macron is also confirmed. Notably, there is no immediate confirmation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's attendance, and Hamas has stated it will not participate.

The peace talks are set against a backdrop of tragedy. On Saturday, three Qatari diplomats lost their lives in a car crash at the Red Sea resort, with two others injured. This summit is a critical juncture, offering hope for a new era of regional security and stability in the Middle East. But the question remains: can this summit truly bring about lasting peace, or is it merely a temporary respite from the conflict?

What do you think? Is this summit a turning point for peace in the region, or are there underlying issues that may hinder progress?
