Is it TRUE that the SRD R350 Grant Will Increase to R700? - SASSA SRD Grant (2024)

Many unemployed beneficiaries of the R350 SRD grant were led to believe SASSA will increase the grant to R700 this year.

Unfortunately, this was only circulating on social media and never officially issued by SASSA and must be considered fake news.

Yes, you can get paid R700 for your SRD grant but the reason would only be that you qualified for the grant two months ago and no payment has been made to you since. So it’ll be a payment of R350 for two months, which will amount to R700 SRD grant.

Before believing the news on social media or any other platform, ensure to verify it by contacting the SASSA SRD department. Scammers can be very creative to grab your attention to fish for your details, so you must always be wary of them.

SASSA SRD grant supports over 8 million people in South Africa to try to combat unemployment and financially assist those in need.

The government at this stage cannot afford to increase the grant due to other expenses they have such as employee salaries, which is about 60% of their expenditures.

The grant is set to expire in March 2024 and we’re hoping the government will consider extending the grant by making it permanent for qualifying applicants under the new rules.
