Milton Williams
4 years
$104 million
Prev. team: Eagles Age: 26 Ht: 6-3 Wt: 290
Williams has never topped five sacks or 10 QB hits in a season, but he might be the biggest beneficiary of this thin free-agency class.
He’s at his best rushing the passer, showing a rare combination of power and quickness for a 290-pounder. He often walks guards and centers into the quarterback but can also win quickly with swipes and swim moves, and he beat some of the league’s best in 2024. He must finish with more sacks, but his 14.2 percent pressure rate ranked third among interior D-linemen (minimum 100 pass-rush snaps). He can anchor more consistently in the run game, but he’s disruptive as a penetrator and flashes the ability to handle double teams. The trickiest part of Williams’ projection: He’s never played more than 50 percent of the snaps in a season while rotating as part of a deep D-line in Philadelphia.
In 2016, Malik Jackson was a lesser-known, productive defensive tackle on a loaded defense who shined while winning the Super Bowl. He landed a six-year deal worth $14.3 million annually with the Jaguars, which would equate to $25 million on the 2025 cap. Don’t be surprised if Williams hits that mark, and his floor might be around $20 million.

How he fits
The Patriots entered free agency with only one defensive lineman they could definitively pencil in for next year: Keion White. So the need was glaring. Enter Williams. He plays a similar style of game to Christian Barmore, who was the Patriots’ highest-paid player before they agreed to this deal with Williams. But there’s still a great deal that remains unknown about the future of Barmore, who is recovering from blood clots and missed most of last season.
If Barmore is unable to play, then Williams will immediately take over that role as the pass-rushing interior defensive lineman. If Barmore does return, the Patriots will boast one of the best interior defensive lines in football. But that’s not to say this signing isn’t risky. Williams has been used mostly in obvious pass-rush situations. So this is a ton of money to give to a guy who was in a rotation last season.

Chris Godwin
3 years
$66 million
Prev. team: Buccaneers Age: 29 Ht: 6-1 Wt: 209
Godwin was on an absolute heater through seven games of 2024 and en route to a career year before a gruesome ankle dislocation ended his season and required surgery.
His 576 receiving yards ranked second in the NFL through that span, and he didn’t drop a pass while recording a whopping 0.56 EPA per target. Godwin also ranked No. 1 in yards after the catch with 389.
The Bucs and Godwin are trying to arrange an extension, according to Fox Sports’ Greg Auman, who also reported that the team moved Godwin’s existing contract’s void date until the last day of the league year, providing more time to work things out. Godwin’s glue-guy reputation, sure hands and ability to play a versatile and dynamic role in this Bucs offense make him very valuable to them. It’s also easy to see him as a fit for a variety of teams if Tampa Bay can’t get a deal done.

How he fits
Godwin could have earned more elsewhere, as the Patriots were extremely interested, but he stayed with the Bucs and drew a slight raise off his previous salary ($20 million annually), even at age 29 and coming off a significant injury. With a fourth offensive coordinator (Josh Grizzard) in as many seasons, the Godwin-Mike Evans duo will remain the foundation of Tampa Bay's pass game.

Josh Sweat
3 years
$76.4 million
Prev. team: Eagles Age: 28 Ht: 6-5 Wt: 265
Like fellow Eagles D-lineman Milton Williams, Sweat isn’t elite but could be paid like it as he hits a thin free-agent market after dominating in the Super Bowl. In the game of his life, Sweat sacked Patrick Mahomes 2.5 times and also forced an interception. The seven-year veteran just finished a three-year, $42 million contract and should have plenty left in the tank, as he was drafted at age 21 and has topped 700 snaps in a season just once.
Sweat is not the same caliber of player as Danielle Hunter — who signed with Houston for two years and $49 million ($48 million guaranteed) at age 29 last spring — but he’s a dangerous pass rusher with terrific athleticism to bend the edge, long arms, and a deep bag of moves from both sides of the formation. He’s also a capable run defender, showing good play strength for his lanky build and excelling when chasing ball carriers down the line of scrimmage. He could comfortably top $20 million annually, if not exceed Hunter’s deal.

How he fits
Sweat has familiarity with Jonathan Gannon, having worked with the Arizona head coach during Gannon’s days as defensive coordinator with the Eagles. He joins a defense that overachieved last season. Coordinator Nick Rallis — a “superstar” as Gannon called him at the NFL Scouting Combine — has built a hard-working, physical defense. Last season’s unit kept the Cardinals in games despite a rash of injuries. What it missed most: A pass rusher who concerned opposing offensive coordinators. Sweat can be that guy.

Sam Darnold
3 years
$100.5 million
Prev. team: Vikings Age: 28 Ht: 6-3 Wt: 225
Darnold thrived for the Vikings in 2024, becoming one of the major stories of the season and setting him up for a large payday. He frequently played like a top-15 quarterback under Coach of the Year Kevin O’Connell. Through eight weeks (including the Vikings’ bye), Darnold had 12 touchdowns (third-most) and five interceptions, a 104.0 passer rating and ranked 15th in EPA/attempt among starters. His lows emerged toward the end of the season, with bad games in Week 18 against Detroit and in the wild-card round against the Rams.
Overall, Darnold showed he can be a capable starter with a high ceiling, playing confidently with layered throws and usually looking to the middle and deeper portions of the field (by the end of the year, as teams ramped up pressure, this was to his detriment). He doesn’t turn 28 until June, which will matter to NFL teams looking for a QB who will last longer than the typical bridge player. The big question teams will be asking: Can Darnold thrive outside of O’Connell’s system?

The Seahawks added pick Nos. 52 and 92 by trading DK Metcalf and Geno Smith, but with only three other top-100 picks — Nos. 18, 50 and 82 — they don’t appear to be in position to draft one of the top quarterback prospects without trading up. This is why general manager John Schneider coveted a starting-caliber veteran.
Now they have Darnold, who completed 22 of 35 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Mike Macdonald’s Seahawks in Week 15. Darnold was the best possible option on the market to replace Smith, who was voted to a couple of Pro Bowls in Seattle and led the team to the playoffs in 2022. Seattle believes it can accomplish its 2025 goals at a price cheaper than what it would have cost to extend Smith.

Justin Reid
3 years
$31.5 million
Prev. team: Chiefs Age: 28 Ht: 6-1 Wt: 207
Like Super Bowl opponent Josh Sweat, Reid is a seven-year veteran seeking his third contract, having entered the league at age 21 with Houston and playing out a three-year, $31.5 million deal with Kansas City. Reid isn’t flashy — he has 10 career interceptions and no Pro Bowl or All-Pro selections — but he’s been central to Steve Spagnuolo’s defense, lining up all over the field and excelling as a coverage player, run defender and blitzer. He’s at his best near the line of scrimmage, but he has good range on the back end and can handle most tight ends in man-to-man coverage. He’s also one of the NFL’s best tacklers.
Budda Baker signed a three-year, $54 million deal in December, a month before his 29th birthday. Reid probably won’t match that figure — Baker is a two-time first-team All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowler — but he should draw a significant raise on his $10.5 million annual average.

How he fits
After younger safeties agreed to gawdy deals, Reid ultimately signed for the same terms as his previous deal (aside from some slight differences in guaranteed money). He's the next safety to go from the Chiefs to the Saints, following Tyrann Mathieu, who agreed to a revised deal Tuesday to remain with New Orleans. Reid will bring improved tackling — which was desperately needed — and versatility to the Saints' defense, and Steve Spagnuolo will miss him in K.C.

Charvarius Ward
3 years
$60 million
Prev. team: 49ers Age: 29 Ht: 6-1 Wt: 196
Like practically all of the 49ers, Ward took a step back last season, though it was a particularly trying season for the 28-year-old. He missed time because of hamstring and knee injuries. Then tragedy struck, with the death of his 1-year-old daughter.
Ward is a talented man-coverage corner who can break on the ball (seven pass breakups in 12 games last year, 70 for his career) but doesn’t have great hands (zero interceptions last year and 10 in seven years).
He has said he’d like to be closer to Texas — where his girlfriend and newborn son live — and farther from the trauma he experienced in California. Interested teams will be banking on a return to his 2023 form (five interceptions and a 64.5 opposing passer rating).

How he fits
Ward immediately slots in as one of Indy’s starting outside cornerbacks. Even after a down year, he's still more productive and reliable than any cornerback on the Colts’ roster not named Kenny Moore II. Ward has built a reputation for always being around the ball, evidenced by his 70 passes defensed in seven seasons, including 41 in 46 regular-season games over the past three years. The additions of Ward and safety Cam Bynum show Indy’s urgency to upgrade its secondary.

Khalil Mack

$18 million
Prev. team: Chargers Age: 34 Ht: 6-3 Wt: 269
Mack briefly pondered retirement after finishing last season with six sacks and 49 quarterback pressures, down from 17 and 88 in 2023. He was also dealing with a groin injury and would provide his new team — if the Chargers actually let him hit the market — with some leadership and veteran savvy.
Often overlooked is how good Mack is against the run, and even as the hairline recedes, his time as a three-down player shouldn’t.

How he fits
Mack was one of the best edge rushers in the league in 2023, dominating as a pass rusher and run defender. He finished that season with a career-high 17 sacks. He battled through two groin strains in 2024, and that affected his production, particularly as a pass rusher. But he was still excellent in run defense.
Mack is one of the most revered and trusted leaders in the Chargers’ locker room. He was paramount in Jim Harbaugh building his culture in Los Angeles last season. That was certainly part of the Chargers’ commitment to bringing back Mack and getting this deal done before the edge rusher hit free agency for the first time in his career.

Dre Greenlaw
3 years
$35 million
Prev. team: 49ers Age: 28 Ht: 6-0 Wt: 230
It’s easy to make the case against Greenlaw. He’s missed 36 games because of injuries in six NFL seasons, including a torn Achilles suffered while running off the sideline in Super Bowl LVIII. He missed the first 13 games in 2024, then lasted only 34 snaps before calf and knee injuries in the same leg ended his season.
But in those 34 snaps Greenlaw was downright dominant, flying around the field and delivering punishing blows to ball carriers (and blockers). At his best, he’s a top-five linebacker with a complete skill set and a tone-setter for any defense. Unless concerns about his knee or calf persist, Greenlaw should be in high demand. The question is whether durability concerns will limit his suitors or bring the price tag down.

How he fits
When healthy, Greenlaw has been one of the most disruptive linebackers in the NFL, with the side-to-side ability that Denver was coveting for Vance Joseph’s defense. He'll immediately fit into a starting role, likely alongside fellow veteran Alex Singleton, who should be ready for training camp after suffering an ACL tear in Week 3 last season. The Broncos also have expressed confidence that third-year player Drew Sanders can play a role, but Greenlaw brings different traits.

D.J. Reed
3 years
$48 million
Prev. team: Jets Age: 28 Ht: 5-9 Wt: 188
Reed was a reliable No. 2 corner with the Jets. Will someone pay him to be their No. 1? He doesn’t turn 29 until November and has been very durable, missing five games in three years in New York. He had only two interceptions over that span, but the press-man corner — who aligned primarily on the defensive right side opposite Sauce Gardner — stayed close enough to allow an opposing passer rating of only 87.1.
His old coach, Robert Saleh, is back with the 49ers, who drafted Reed in the fifth round in 2018. One could imagine Reed returning to his old team, too, if Ward signs elsewhere.

The Lions lost Carlton Davis, and they didn’t take long to replace him with Reed, who spent three seasons opposite Sauce Gardner on the Jets and now joins a Detroit team that needed help at the position. The Lions are expected to continue playing man coverage at a high rate under new defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard. Reed played 31.1 percent of his snaps in man coverage (45th among CBs, per PFF). For reference, his new running mate in Detroit — Terrion Arnold — played 46.2 percent of his snaps in man. However, Reed earned a coverage grade of 66.1 in man, which was tied for 28th among CBs last season (min. 150 coverage snaps).

Jonathan Allen

Prev. team: Commanders Age: 30 Ht: 6-3 Wt: 300
At age 30 with a large salary, Allen was the odd man out in Washington's loaded defensive tackle group, and he'll now get to choose his team after being released. He missed half of 2024 with a torn pectoral muscle but returned late in the season and remains a force against both the run and pass.
Allen has never reached double-digit sacks in a season, but he racks up pressures and QB hits, routinely walking guards backward with his signature "Bear" move (a cross-chop/bull that is hard to stop even when you know it's coming). He can be a bit boom-or-bust against the run, and there's some risk here given his age, but he should draw plenty of interest.

How he fits
Brian Flores has sought more interior pass-rush juice for years. He and the Vikings' brass have valued the jobs Harrison Phillips and Jonathan Bullard have done against the run, but neither player impacted the interior of the pocket. Allen can.
The Vikings typically don’t sign 30-plus-year-old players to lengthy contracts in free agency, but this deal made sense for multiple reasons. First, Allen was one of the best players remaining on the market. Second, he is a longtime captain and former Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee, known to enhance a locker room. And third, head coach Kevin O’Connell had familiarity with him from his time in Washington.

This might be way too high on the list or way too low. Two years after signing a four-year, $84 million deal, Hargrave will be released after playing only three games in 2024 because of a torn triceps. The Niners said they are open to bringing him back for less money and will let the market set the price.
Hargrave was really good not too long ago. The former Steeler and Eagle had a career-high 11 sacks in 2022 and helped the 49ers reach the Super Bowl in 2023 with 44 tackles and seven sacks in the regular season, followed by a strong playoff run.

Hargrave joins Allen as a huge addition to the Vikings' interior, cutting into Harrison Phillips' snaps (and perhaps putting his roster spot in danger) Hargrave and Allen could represent a drastic improvement in the pass rush. Among 277 qualified pass rushers over the last five years, they rank 45th and 89th in pressure rate, respectively. Phillips and former Vikings DT Jonathan Bullard ranked 236th and 275th.

Prev. team: Texans Age: 31 Ht: 6-0 Wt: 191
Texans general manager Nick Caserio said earlier this offseason that the team would be “absolutely open” to bringing back Diggs, whom it acquired via trade with Buffalo last spring. Diggs played eight games for Houston before a season-ending ACL tear, averaging 62.0 receiving yards per game with three touchdowns. His injury broke a six-year streak of 1,000-yard seasons.
Though Diggs is a four-time Pro Bowler, he is also probably a very good No. 2 receiver at this point in his career at age 31. Teams will have questions about his injury recovery, but there’s no question he is a top receiver in this class.

He’s not especially sudden or polished as a route runner, but he sinks his hips well and can beat cornerbacks in man coverage at times. With a large catch radius (6-foot-4 with 34 ¼-inch arms) and dangerous ability in the open field, Johnson is a big-play threat who could blossom in a better offense. He is also a much better blocker than you’d expect for a converted wideout, showing great play strength and competitiveness.
Johnson could have several suitors, perhaps including the coach who signed him out of college, Sean Payton.

How he fits
Given the lack of offensive weapons, the Saints almost needed to keep Johnson by any means necessary. They basically would’ve had no one at tight end if he had signed elsewhere, especially with Taysom Hill sustaining a torn ACL late last season. Johnson has come a long way. Injuries have been a concern throughout his career, but he’s been productive when available.
Even with retaining Johnson, though, the viability of the Saints’ 2025 offense is a major question for Kellen Moore after several years of regression following Drew Brees’ retirement and Sean Payton’s departure.

Prev. team: Colts Age: 27 Ht: 6-6 Wt: 305
A seventh-round pick who struggled mightily in his first extended action in 2022, Fries was one of the league’s most improved players in 2023, growing into an above-average starter. He took another step in 2024 before suffering a tibia injury in October that required surgery and ended his season.
His recovery from that injury will help determine his market, but if healthy, Fries is one of the 10 best right guards in the NFL. He’s an excellent run blocker and a capable pass blocker. He also plays with a mean streak, setting the tone for the entire offensive line.

How he fits
Minnesota views Fries as an answer to the pocket-pressure conundrum. Age and production were the primary sources of intrigue for the Vikings. Fries is still young. He played in only five games last year before fracturing his tibia — a notable injury that will have to be monitored in the ensuing weeks — but was effective as a run blocker and pass protector. He played solidly in 17 games the season before.
Once the Kansas City Chiefs franchise-tagged Trey Smith, the Vikings viewed Fries as one of the premier guards who would be available. Pairing him with Ryan Kelly, one of his close friends and former teammates, is a bonus.

Prev. team: Falcons Age: 26 Ht: 6-3 Wt: 305
Though PFF ranked Dalman’s pass protection No. 22 among centers this season, he was No. 4 in run blocking. The grades overall are “incomplete,” though, because Dalman missed eight games with an ankle injury. In the nine he played, he allowed only 10 pressures and no sacks.
Dalman would fit any team that deploys lots of zone run concepts, and behind him, the center market is quite thin. He has been the team’s starting center for the last three seasons when healthy. Every other Falcons starting offensive lineman is under contract through at least 2025.

The Bears had a serious need at center, the player in charge of making the offensive line calls and being the trustworthy player for quarterback Caleb Williams. They hope Dalman can finally bring stability to the position. He’ll be their fourth Week 1 center in the past four seasons.
Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen had plenty of time to watch film of Dalman the past few seasons when he was in the NFC South running the Saints defense and could have used that experience to help in the evaluation.

Talanoa Hufanga

Prev. team: 49ers Age: 25 Ht: 6-0 Wt: 200
Hufanga is an instinctive, athletic safety who can line up anywhere but excels closer to the line of scrimmage. He earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2022 after stuffing the stat sheet with four interceptions, two sacks, five tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.
Like many of this year’s top free agents, he comes with durability concerns. Hufanga tore the ACL in his right knee in November 2023, missed the start of the 2024 season, then suffered a concussion and torn ligaments in his wrist. He returned in December to play with a cast that clearly limited him as a tackler. He moved well, though, a good sign for his knee.

The Broncos felt they needed an upgrade at safety next to 2024 free-agent signee Brandon Jones, and Hufanga brings a talented, physical presence. A physical presence near the line of scrimmage, he also has the coverage skills necessary to handle opposing tight ends. If Hufanga can return to the healthy form of a couple of seasons ago, he and Jones could give the Broncos one of the best young safety tandems in the NFL.

The 6-foot-1 corner has 11 interceptions and 84 pass breakups over his career, and good press-man corners are hard to find. Even if it’s for only 13 games per season.

Davis was the Lions’ top cornerback a year ago, but he now will get the benefit of being the No. 2 corner for the Pats behind Cristian Gonzalez, meaning he should draw more favorable matchups if he’s not always marking the opponent’s best receiver. He’s 6-foot-1 and a prototypical outside cornerback, which is a help since the Patriots have struggled in recent years with a smaller group of corners who struggled in the red zone against big receivers.

If anyone needs a change of scenery, it’s probably this guy. Holland might be the best safety on the market, as he can impact all three levels on defense. But he has been a little inconsistent — especially last season — and who can blame him, with four different defensive coordinators in his four seasons?
His numbers tease his potential: five interceptions, 16 pass breakups, five forced fumbles and five sacks. He was team captain for three of those years and doesn’t turn 25 until March. But the price tag here will be based more on potential than production, and that’s always a roll of the dice.

Holland will slot right in next to exciting second-year player Tyler Nubin, who showed plenty of promise last season. While injuries were a unfortunate theme for Holland the past two seasons, when healthy, he has shown he can be a true difference-maker with big-play potential. Malcolm Koonce

$12 million
Prev. team: Raiders Age: 27 Ht: 6-2 Wt: 250
Pass rushers are hard to find, as one former Raiders coach said after trading Khalil Mack. So there shouldn’t be too big of a discount for a 26-year-old, bendy edge player who had eight sacks and 17 QB hits in 2023 before missing all of 2024 with a non-contact knee injury. Especially since all indications are that his recovery is going well.
A third-round pick in 2021, Koonce didn’t play much during his first two years but had a breakthrough when he stopped trying to prove he could play with power. With defensive coordinator Patrick Graham returning under new coach Pete Carroll, and Maxx Crosby signing a record extension, will Koonce take less to stay in Las Vegas?

How he fits
Koonce was a full-time starter by the end of the 2023 season, but he’ll need to earn that role in 2025. Tyree Wilson made strides in his absence, and defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson could also be in the mix if the Raiders re-sign him. That said, Koonce has shown the most promise of those three players and is the most likely to start across from Crosby. He will need to improve as a run defender — though he thrived as a pass rusher in 2023, he still played only 44 percent of the team’s defensive snaps.

Prev. team: Saints Age: 26 Ht: 6-5 Wt: 264
The No. 2 pick of the 2020 draft, Young could be joining his fourth team before his 26th birthday. He played all 17 games for the Saints last season, yet didn’t start one. Still, he played 63 percent of the snaps, and the numbers suggest he was very productive and perhaps unlucky: He tied for ninth in the NFL in pressures (66) and 16th in QB hits (21) but had only 5.5 sacks.
The film tells a more complicated story. Young feasted on backup offensive tackles, and many of his pressures came late in the play or as he let the QB break contain. He has an effective bull rush — he beat stalwart Bucs tackle Tristan Wirfs with it — but his speed rush is merely average, and he could stand to polish his countermoves. Young was also underwhelming as a run defender (perhaps the reason he was not a starter), too often playing passively or lagging in pursuit.
Still, Young has plenty of good tape, and mid-20s pass rushers with pedigree and production don’t often hit the market. He should have enough suitors to garner a multiyear deal after settling for a one-year, $13 million pact last spring.

Think Young will finally start a game for the Saints in 2025? Cam Jordan turns 36 this summer, and New Orleans is now committed to Young, who will now have some stability after bouncing from team to team. His power rush is excellent when it's on. With four of the Panthers' top five safeties from last season hitting free agency, this was always going to be a high position of need for Dan Morgan. The GM isn’t done at safety. Moehrig, a second-round pick out of TCU in 2021, has a solid frame that lends itself to run support. That should come in handy in Carolina, which became just the fourth team in NFL history to allow 3,000 rushing yards in a season.
The Panthers were in the running for former Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Milton Williams, who agreed to a big deal with New England. But the Moehrig deal wasn’t a pivot: The Panthers were always going to address both positions in free agency.

Fields might be the biggest wild card in the top 150. Last year, Sam Darnold was No. 98 on this list. This year, following a remarkable season in Minnesota’s QB-friendly environment, he’s in the top 10. Add in recent career resurgences from Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield and there might be more appetite around the league than ever before for QB reclamation projects.
Fields was off to the best start of his career in 2024 before being benched for Russell Wilson, posting a positive EPA/dropback (0.04, ranking 17th through Week 6) for the first time, throwing just one interception on 161 attempts and dropping his sack rate from historically high (12.4 percent) to merely bad (9.0). He’s an exceptional athlete, great to build a run game around, but will a team value his passing ability enough to make a bet on him?
As Darnold did with J.J. McCarthy, Fields could face competition wherever he winds up, including if he re-signs with the Steelers. His market might depend on the rest of the QB carousel, but the one-year, $10 million deal Darnold played on in 2024 would make sense.

How he fits
Based on the contract, it’s fairly obvious that Fields will be the Jets’ starting quarterback. It was believed that Tyrod Taylor would get a shot to compete for the starting job, but the Jets wouldn’t have paid Fields that much if they didn’t view him as their starter in 2025. He’s the sort of quarterback the Jets haven’t really had before — a legitimate dual-threat, even if he still could use some development as a passer.
Fields showed some improvement with the Steelers last year but not enough to stave off Russell Wilson, and Pittsburgh ran an offense designed to minimize risk. Under first-year Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, formerly a part of the Detroit Lions’ staff, expect an offense built around Fields’ skillset with a lot of RPOs, play-action and creativity to get him in space and take advantage of his athleticism — while also attempting to develop him as a passer.

Reddick was never known for being good against the run — and was really bad there last season — but if he can convince a team that he is motivated, a prove-it deal for a once-prolific pass rusher could be good for both parties.

The Bucs' pass rush desperately needed more juice off the edge, and Reddick can provide that — as long as he can prove 2024 was an anomaly. He should be motivated playing on a one-year deal. Becton’s 2024 season was a wonderful success story. He hit the market last spring as an inconsistent, injury-prone offensive tackle, ranking 92nd on this list. The Eagles signed him for $2.75 million to play guard, and he thrived next to a potential Hall of Fame right tackle (Lane Johnson) and under an acclaimed OL coach (Jeff Stoutland), having a career season and earning a major raise.
Becton has spoken highly of the Eagles, and perhaps he’ll take less to stay in Philadelphia, but history suggests Howie Roseman is more likely to look for the next Becton than pay him at his peak value. Becton is a mauler in the run game, but he still has issues as a pass blocker: His 6.0 percent pressure rate allowed ranked 55th among guards (minimum 200 pass blocking snaps) in 2024. Given all of these dynamics (and his lengthy injury history), Becton’s market is a bit unpredictable.

He'll join a crowded room with Uchenna Nwosu, Boye Mafe and Derick Hall after Dre'Mont Jones' release, so it will be interesting to see how Mike Macdonald will manage the group's snaps.

Byron Murphy Jr.
3 years
$66 million
Prev. team: Vikings Age: 27 Ht: 5-11 Wt: 190
There’s plenty to like about Murphy coming off his first Pro Bowl selection, as he posted career bests almost across the board, including interceptions (six) and passer rating allowed (80.0). He played all over, lining up outside in base sets and in the slot in sub packages, and he’s still young after playing out a two-year, $17.5 million deal.
Context is important, though. In Brian Flores’ unique scheme, Murphy often played Cover 2 with safety help or rotated within complex coverages, making him a trickier projection for teams that employ simpler schemes. Only 22 percent of his coverage snaps in 2024 were man-to-man, where he can get a bit grabby (three of his four penalties came in man), and his interceptions were often the product of schemed pressure. He should command a significant raise, but fit will be important. He might be best suited to stay in Minnesota, where the Vikings’ top three CBs are all free agents.

How he fits
Murphy returns as the Vikings’ most trusted cornerback. One of the primary reasons Minnesota paid him so much is his versatility. He played double-digit snaps in multiple games at slot corner, outside corner and in the box. The Vikings even asked him to drop as a safety in the deep half, and not only was he willing, but he executed in those zone coverages.
The Vikings did not want to lose a player who played as many roles as he did. They also viewed the 27-year-old as an ascending player in the system. He had six interceptions last year and was most effective late in the season, earning his first Pro Bowl nod. He has never been afraid to tackle, and Flores has not shied away from blitzing him off the edge.

Prev. team: Commanders Age: 27 Ht: 6-3 Wt: 220
Chinn was one of several veterans who joined the Commanders as a free agent last season and quickly became a success story. He played 94.3 percent of Washington’s defensive snaps and matched career highs in passes defensed (five), interceptions (one) and tackles (117) while recording a career-best seven tackles for loss and two sacks.
After signing for $4.1 million in Washington, he might double that in annual value on a multiyear deal this time around.

How he fits
Chinn steps in for Tre'von Moehrig, who left for Carolina, and should fit right into Patrick Graham’s system. Like Moehrig, Chinn was a second-round pick who has some explosiveness and physicality and had his best season last year. Chinn lined up at safety, linebacker and cornerback for the Commanders last season. For now, he slides in next to Isaiah Pola-Mao, giving the Raiders a big back line (both are 6-3 or taller). The Raiders could still sign or draft competition for Polo-Mao.

Patrick Mekari

Prev. team: Ravens Age: 28 Ht: 6-4 Wt: 305
The most versatile player in this class, Mekari has played at least 267 snaps at all five offensive line positions since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2019, including 159 at right tackle and 781 at left guard in 2024. He’s been a capable pass protector, allowing a pressure rate of 4.7 percent at guard and 6.1 percent at tackle (the league averages in 2024 were 4.9 and 5.9, respectively), and effective in the Ravens’ varied run game.
Though not an outstanding athlete, Mekari is technically sound with good play strength, making guard his ideal spot, but his versatility should boost his value. The Ravens also have left tackle Ronnie Stanley hitting free agency and drafted right tackle Roger Rosengarten in Round 2 last year, so they might struggle to keep Mekari, who played out a three-year, $15.5 million contract.

The Jaguars' OL has been plagued by injury and inconsistency for years, so Mekari's versatility and dependability should be welcome. Assuming new addition Robert Hainsey, who was with Liam Coen in Tampa Bay, plays center, Mekari will likely slot in for now at right guard, where Brandon Scherff is a free agent.

Prev. team: Broncos Age: 30 Ht: 6-0 Wt: 305
Undersized (6-0, 305) with short arms (32 ½ inches), Jones remains a quality nose tackle entering his ninth season, having played out a three-year, $30 million deal with the Broncos. An animal in the run game, Jones has the low center of gravity to anchor against double teams and the quickness to penetrate or flow with perimeter runs. He won’t rack up sacks or QB hits, but he can be disruptive as a pass rusher, too, posting a 7.5 percent pressure rate (7.6 was average for DTs in 2024) over three years in Denver.
Jones’ snap share dipped to 40 percent in 2024 after being above 50 from 2021 to ‘23, and at age 30, he’s likely past his peak, but teams needing help in run defense shouldn’t hesitate to call.

How he fits
Jones was a key cog in a defense that ranked second against the run at 3.9 yards per opponent carry last season. He only had one of Denver’s 63 sacks, but his ability to eat space in the middle of the line helped the Broncos’ pass rushers thrive. Denver now has every member of its 2024 starting defensive front and its top four outside linebackers under contract next season.
Jones’ contract doesn’t mean he’ll need to play a bigger role. It’s a reflection that Denver values the dirty work he has done — and believes he’ll continue to do — on early downs for a defense that is determined not to take a step back after last season’s breakthrough performance.

A rarity as a sub-6-foot defensive lineman, Ford is coming off his best season after several strong years with the Seahawks. Built like a fire hydrant, he is a force against double teams in the run game, helping the Chargers finish seventh in defensive EPA per rush despite lining up in two-high shells at the NFL’s second-highest rate (45.9 percent). He’s not known for his pass rush, but he did have some impressive quick pressures against quality guards in 2024 (including a cheeky spin move) and five batted passes.
This defensive tackle class is deep, but Ford is one of the top under-30 options, and he should see a significant raise on the one-year, $2.25 million deal he played on last season.

How he fits
Ford's ability against the run caught the Rams’ eye, as they badly need a dynamic run defender on the interior who can also rush the passer alongside ascending stars Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske. League sources said that Ford preferred to stay in Los Angeles, where he hopes to settle and build out his life. The Chargers hoped to keep Ford, and a second AFC team pursued him as well, a league source said.

Prev. team: Chargers Age: 30 Ht: 6-5 Wt: 280
Once one of the NFL’s most feared pass rushers, Bosa somehow doesn’t turn 30 until July, but he’s several years removed from his peak, as his body broke down in recent seasons. He has missed 41 games and played through several other injuries during nine NFL seasons. In 14 games in 2024, he didn’t look like the same level of player, leading to his release from the Chargers.
Bosa could certainly still provide value somewhere. He’s lost some quickness and explosiveness, relying more on power, but he’s always been a technician with his hands, both as a pass rusher and run defender. His injury history will likely limit his offers, and he might not be far from retirement, but it’s not hard to imagine him helping a contender (maybe across from his brother, Nick Bosa, with the 49ers?) as a second or third rusher, perhaps with reduced snaps to keep him fresh.

How he fits
The 49ers and Dolphins were interested, but the Bills paid up to land Bosa, guaranteeing him $12 million and offering $3 million via incentives to make exactly the sort of splash they so desperately needed on the edge. After the Von Miller foray didn't work out, perhaps this will give Buffalo the defensive closer it has been seeking.
Health will be the key. Bosa could immediately supplant A.J. Epenesa as a starter, but limiting his reps to keep him healthy for the playoffs might be wise.

He ranked 20th in our early look at the 2025 free-agent class last spring after totaling four interceptions and 18 pass breakups in 2023, and he added three picks and 10 breakups in seven games before his injury.
There’s little precedent for NFL players recovering from a broken femur, complicating Adebo’s market. However, Vikings linebacker E.J. Henderson returned in 2010 after a nine-month recovery, playing in all 16 games and earning Pro Bowl honors. The Saints will know the most about how his recovery is going, but there will surely be other suitors.

Spillane is still at his best as a run stuffer and projects as a starting linebacker for the Patriots. If he’s lined up next to Anfernee Jennings, that gives the Pats a strong push against the run. The Raiders also used Spillane on a career-high 82 pass-rush snaps (which yielded a pair of sacks) in 2024, but it’s still not his strength. He notched 110 tackles and an impressive 6 percent missed tackle mark, according to Pro Football Focus.

A second-round pick in 2021, Onwuzurike didn’t start a game until 2024, filling a rotational role in 2021 and 2023 and missing all of 2022 after spinal fusion surgery. He managed only 1.5 sacks in 16 games (10 starts) this season but added 13 QB hits and a pressure rate of 11.7 percent, well above average for DTs (7.6).
Onwuzurike is best as a power rusher, weaponizing his bull rush and heavy hands after bulking up entering 2024. He’s a bit stiff laterally and must improve as a finisher, but he can eat up ground with explosive second and third steps. He needs more polish as a run defender, where he’s more effective on the edge than inside, but the flashes are encouraging. His best should be ahead of him, and he could have plenty of suitors.

Quite frankly, this deal is a steal for Detroit. Onwuzurike ranked top 15 among all DTs in pass-rush win rate and pressures last season — easily the best of his career. Perhaps his injury history played more of a factor in his market than expected.
In the end, this is great news for the Lions. They keep a talented young interior pass rusher for another year, and Onwuzurike has another year to secure a long-term contract.

What happened to Cooper? The Bills spent a third-round pick to add Cooper for the stretch run but wound up taking him off the field for Mack Hollins in the playoffs. And before that in Cleveland, Cooper was apparently just standing in Jerry Jeudy’s way to big things.
Even if he has lost a step, Cooper is still just a year removed from his seventh 1,000-yard season. His route running and usually reliable hands (not last season) could help a team as a No. 2 receiver — especially if that team can convince itself that his problems stemmed from a wrist injury and slow acclimation to the Bills’ playbook.

Wilson wishes he were entering free agency back when the Steelers were 10-3. But they never won another game, and some of the warts in the 36-year-old’s game re-emerged. The deep lob is pretty when it hits, but not so much when it doesn’t, and Wilson can’t make the throws on the run like he used to.
Teams can probably do worse than sticking Wilson into a play-action offense — especially because he seemed to do well as a leader early on last season — but they can do better, too.

Yes, Jones’ final two seasons with the Giants were a disaster: 16 games, 2,979 passing yards, 10 passing TDs, 13 interceptions, 59 sacks, -0.13 EPA/dropback, one torn ACL and a midseason release from a bloated contract.
But free agency is about buying low, especially at premium positions, and Jones could provide some value. He has good mobility, 69 career starts and stretches of above-average play despite having one of the league’s weakest supporting casts since he was drafted. No, you probably don’t want him as your starter, but you could do much worse.

How he fits
Jones will challenge Anthony Richardson for the starting QB job after GM Chris Ballard declared an open quarterback competition. Ballard insisted the team would add “real competition” for Richardson, but what that exactly meant remained unclear until the Colts reached an agreement with Jones.
Some can argue that Jones, whose career flamed out with the Giants, doesn’t offer more upside than Richardson, but there’s no doubt he’s enjoyed far more success than Richardson.

Yeah, maybe the ceiling is not super high, but the floor is pretty nice. Harris has four straight years of 17 starts and 1,000 rushing yards to open his career. He averages only 3.9 yards a carry and has never had a run longer than 37 yards … and is good for only a couple of 6-yard catches per game. But did we mention he never misses a game?
Harris seems like a perfect fit for a cold-weather team, much like his last one, but it will be interesting to see the demand on the market given the draft has what everyone says is a very strong RB class.

With J.K. Dobbins a free agent and Gus Edwards released — after both battled injuries in 2024 — the Chargers are remaking their running back room again. Harris will come in as the No. 1 back. His durability was surely attractive, considering Edwards and Dobbins both missed time last season. He has not missed a game in four NFL seasons, and he will provide reliability between the tackles.

Engram remains a fast, nimble athlete who excels on runaway routes (crossers, overs, posts, fades, etc.), although he was used more in short areas in Jacksonville. He is not dominant at the catch point, and he has the occasional drop, but he’s dangerous after the catch. Although not known for his blocking, he gives good effort in this area to compensate for his lack of size. He should have suitors, even if he has to settle for a short-term deal.

Engram immediately becomes TE1 in Denver, giving the Broncos a receiving threat at the position they have not had since trading Noah Fant to Seattle in the Russell Wilson deal. Sean Payton said he needs targets who can make Denver more efficient in the middle of the field, and Engram can.
The Broncos could still very much be in the market for a tight end during next month’s NFL Draft, but they now have a bonafide target at the position.

Slayton has quietly been one of the league’s better big-play threats for six seasons, averaging 15.0 yards per catch despite playing with Daniel Jones and a handful of replacement-level QBs. He found a soft market in 2023, re-signing for two years and $12 million, and he’ll hit free agency again after totaling just seven catches in seven games with Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock.
In the right environment, Slayton could bring significant upside, ideally with a No. 1 target to draw attention and a QB willing to attack downfield. Darnell Mooney and Gabe Davis each got $13 million annually last spring, which feels a tad high for Slayton but not implausible.

How he fits
Slayton will fit like a glove as the No. 2 WR opposite Malik Nabers. He was off to a typically productive start to last season until his production cratered after quarterback Daniel Jones was benched in Week 12, and his ability as a field-stretcher is an ideal complement to Nabers’ all-around dominance. Slayton’s 15 yards per catch average is tied for sixth highest in the NFL since he entered the league.
Slayton also provides important intangibles to a locker room that has seen an exodus of homegrown talent in recent years. He was a particularly valuable resource for Nabers, often helping the talented rookie line up before the snap.

Odeyingbo is going to get paid. He looks great on paper: massive frame (including 35-inch arms), 34 QB hits the past two seasons, doesn’t turn 26 until September. He flashes on film, too, especially as a pass rusher, employing a variety of moves and giving guards and centers trouble when rushing inside.
The question is whether Odeyingbo will get overpaid, as his play doesn’t yet match his traits. He’s a bit of a tweener — despite his size, he lacks the play strength to bump inside full-time, but he’s sluggish on the edge, especially against the run, where he needs to improve his technique and awareness.
Even so, Odeyingbo’s ceiling is high. He’s already a disruptive pass rusher despite lacking a good bull rush, and he’s started only 19 games. His best is probably still ahead of him.

Odeyingbo’s physical profile fits what Dennis Allen wants for his defense. Allen typically targeted larger defensive ends for his scheme — Cam Jordan (6-4, 287 pounds), Marcus Davenport (6-6, 265 pounds), Payton Turner (6-6, 270 pounds) and Isaiah Foskey (6-5, 270 pounds) — with the New Orleans Saints. Signing Odeyingbo won’t prevent the Bears from drafting a defensive end, but it definitely makes it less of a need. He should be considered an up-and-coming player.

He can still get open and remains fast enough to threaten vertically, which could make him an ideal third option in a pass-heavy offense.
Lockett’s upside might not be high, but he doesn’t carry any red flags other than age. As an understated, unselfish veteran willing to mentor young players, he would be a great addition to any locker room. He’s also extremely durable, having missed only three games in 10 seasons.

The Titans waived Tart in December 2023, reportedly because of effort and attitude concerns, and he’s been on three teams since. He didn’t start a game for the Chargers in 2024, and he’s never played more than 47 percent of his team’s defensive snaps in a season. So why is he this high? Well, when he’s on the field, he’s a handful, especially against the run.
Along with Poona Ford, Tart helped the Chargers stuff the run despite playing predominantly with two deep safeties. Opponents averaged 5.0 yards per carry and a 39.7 percent rushing success rate with Tart off the field, compared to 4.2 and 36.4 with him on it. He can also be disruptive as a pass rusher, even if he rarely finishes with sacks or QB hits.
There’s a reason Tart is available, and that could limit his market, but he could still provide significant value.

There’s a lot to like about Daniels. He’s a seven-year veteran but doesn’t turn 28 until mid-September. He’s played extensively at all three interior spots, most recently at right guard, settling in as an above-average starter over three seasons with the Steelers.
However, he tore his Achilles tendon in September, the primary reason he is not higher on this list. It wouldn’t be surprising if he commanded a raise on the three-year, $26.5 million deal he just finished, but he might have to settle for a one-year, prove-it deal.

The Dolphins have neglected the O-line too much in recent seasons, so Daniels' addition is much needed. If he's healthy, the contract is a bargain, as he should immediately provide an upgrade, especially as a run-blocker. Even so, 26-year-olds with 66 career starts at left tackle rarely hit the open market. Moore maintained his starting job despite the Steelers drafting offensive tackles in Round 1 in back-to-back years, and he had his best season in 2024. He’s certainly no star, but positional value matters, and he’ll get paid because of it.

Moore's numbers are alarming, but he improved as a pass protector despite leading the league in sacks in 2024 (a figure that was inflated by having Russell Wilson and Justin Fields at QB, and facing Myles Garrett and Trey Hendrickson twice each).
The Titans clearly overpaid, but Bill Callahan should get the most out of Moore, who will presumably stay at LT and bump JC Latham back to his college position of RT. The right side of the Titans' OL was a disaster in 2024. This brings some hope.

Wharton was lucky and unlucky as a pass rusher — most of his sacks were clean-up plays, while most of his cleanest wins didn’t end in sacks. He has quick feet and crafty hands but also enough power to threaten with a bull rush. At 280 pounds, he can be blown off the ball by double teams against the run, but he’s feisty and technique-sound, often shedding single blocks with ease. He finished strong with an excellent Super Bowl, helping stuff Saquon Barkley.

After the Patriots outbid the Panthers for Milton Williams, Carolina GM Dan Morgan pivoted to two other D-linemen — each with distinct skill sets. While former Rams nose tackle Bobby Brown III is a space-eating, run stopper, Wharton is a smallish pass rusher who entered free agency on a high note.
Wharton’s 6.5 sacks in 2024 nearly matched his total of seven from his first four seasons combined. He added 11 quarterback hits and a forced fumble in the regular season, giving coordinator Ejiro Evero another interior pass rusher to rotate with Derrick Brown and A’Shawn Robinson.

Zeitler did allow five sacks in 2024, his most in a season in PFF’s database (since 2019), but his pressure rate allowed (3.2 percent) bested his career average (3.3) and is second-best among guards in this class. He remains one of the league’s steadiest run blockers. As long as Zeitler wants to keep playing, some team should have a starting job for him.
How he fits
The right side of the Titans' O-line was a disaster in 2024. If things break right now, it could be above average. Zeitler will step in at right guard, next to — when healthy — C Lloyd Cushenberry and presumably RT JC Latham, who played LT as a rookie but could move back to his college position to make way for Dan Moore Jr. at LT. It's not a perfect group, but it's a whole lot better.

After signing for big money in Buffalo, Miller's time with the Bills was underwhelming, with injuries being a significant factor. His reputation as a closer in the playoffs should interest a contender or two.

Following seven seasons in Washington, Moses bounced to the Jets to the Ravens and back, but his play has remained rock solid. His durability has slipped a tad (six games missed since 2023, ending a string of 133 consecutive appearances), but he allowed just 24 pressures each in 2022 and 2023 and only 16 in 2024, posting the best pressure rate allowed of any tackle in this class.
Moses offers stability at a headache position for many teams, and he shouldn’t cost much after playing out a three-year, $15 million deal.

How he fits
This one is pretty easy. Moses will be the team’s new starting right tackle. The Patriots tried a lot of options at the position last season, and none of them really worked. So this year, they went after a proven veteran, even amid a rebuild.
Moses’ play dipped quite a bit last season from the impressive heights of his two-year stint with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022 and 2023, but you still know what you’re going to get from him: strong pass protection. Durability might become more of an issue as he enters his mid-30s, but he’s been one of the most reliable tackles in the NFL, at one point playing in 133 consecutive games.

How he fits
The Steelers let Donte Jackson walk in free agency and likely upgraded with Slay, who fits their style of play as a physical, press-man corner and could ease the burden on Joey Porter Jr. at times by matching the opponent's top receiver. Age is a concern, but Slay still has a bit left in the tank. He should also help as a mentor to Porter and Cory Trice Jr.

Once a promising three-down back, Williams tore the ACL and LCL in his right knee in 2022 and hasn’t been quite the same since. His success rate and yards per carry climbed in 2024, but both remained below average. He failed to maximize opportunities behind a much-improved offensive line, averaging just 2.38 yards after contact, last among RBs with at least 75 carries.
That said, Williams doesn’t turn 25 until April and has been otherwise healthy in his career. He was Sean Payton’s preferred third-down back, as an excellent pass protector and capable receiver. His market might be limited, but he should find options in a thin running back class.

How he fits
With Rico Dowdle — who ran for a career high 1,079 yards last season — still unsigned, Williams slides in as the Cowboys' top running back. Williams has three-down ability but has struggled since his major knee injury in 2022.
Given his age, it would be premature to shut the door on his potential, especially if it comes in a role that’s fitting for him. A 1B is likely his ceiling, but as long as the Cowboys treat him like a No. 2 back (meaning they find their No. 1 in the draft), Williams can be a solid pickup.

Fulton has always had talent, which is why he was a second-round pick. But he hit the market last spring coming off his worst season, signing with the Chargers for $3.1 million. Now he might be coming off his best season, showing off his physicality in both coverage and run defense.
Cornerback play is notoriously inconsistent year to year, and environment is an important factor — the Chargers got great play from two fifth-round rookie CBs, too. It might be wise to look for the next Fulton rather than paying him eight figures with multiple years of guarantees, but he’s certainly earned a raise.

Fulton gives the Chiefs three strong starting cornerbacks, which is essential for coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who loves to blitz while asking his CBs to excel in man coverage. Other guards in this class have better tape, but most of them have age or injury concerns, which could help Banks land a surprisingly big contract.

Banks started 43 games for the 49ers the last three seasons and played exclusively at left guard. He's is a good gap blocker whom the 49ers followed on many goal-line runs in 2022 and 2023 but had a somewhat underwhelming 2024 season. Perhaps the most interesting aspect this deal is what it means for the rest of the offensive line. Elgton Jenkins can play anywhere on the offensive line but started one game at center in 2024. If the Packers envision keeping Banks at left guard, the logical move would be sliding Jenkins to center.

Myers fits the mold of younger, lower-cost free agents the Jets have been prioritizing. His reported contract would indicate he’ll be a backup, but there’s at least an outside chance the Jets shuffle things around by moving center Joe Tippmann to right guard (which he played a bit as a rookie in 2023) and right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker to right tackle. It’s too early to discern if that’s the plan.

Kelly has been and will continue to be a center, which means the Vikings might part with Garrett Bradbury. They didn’t necessarily view Bradbury as a player they had to replace, but Kelly is bigger and more accomplished.
Securing a proven leader also assists the Vikings’ eventual transition to young quarterback J.J. McCarthy. Kelly operated with Anthony Richardson in Indianapolis, so he is familiar with some of the challenges McCarthy is likely to face.

Ossai needs to be more proactive in run defense, where his eyes are slow and technique is inconsistent, but he still has significant upside.

The Bengals hope that an uneven first three seasons don't illustrate the player Ossai will become, but rather five sacks over the final seven games showed the bright future a 25-year-old turning the corner. The one-year prove-it deal offers a small bet he could deliver for an edge rusher room badly in need of pass-rush juice. Ossai's relentless play style always connected with the Bengals staff and showed up in his production late last season, but he must win at a higher rate to become an impactful starting edge.

Andre Cisco

$10 million
Prev. team: Jaguars Age: 25 Ht: 6-0 Wt: 210
A third-round pick and three-year starter, Cisco brings a good combination of size, athleticism and ball skills (eight INTs, 24 PDs since 2022), but he needs to become more consistent. He appeared to be involved in several busts as the Jaguars’ defense fell apart in 2024; he lost snaps in November and was pulled from the starting lineup for two games in December.
Primarily a free safety, Cisco has the range to play deep but has shown enough in run support to merit a varied role. It would not be surprising to see him excel in the right environment.

How he fits
The Jets’ safety room should be getting an overhaul outside of Tony Adams. Cisco, a Jaguars third-round pick out of Syracuse in 2021, started for Jacksonville the last three years and had good production in 2022 and 2023 — seven interceptions, a touchdown and 15 pass deflections — but had only one pick in 2024 as part of a struggling Jaguars defense. He's a young, middle-market player with room to grow.

Bobby Brown III

Prev. team: Rams Age: 25 Ht: 6-4 Wt: 328
A fourth-round pick in 2021, Brown was one of the few remaining members of the Rams' defensive line that exited the Aaron Donald era and into the new younger core. He struggled at times in previous seasons to find a role, in part because of depth, injury and a 2022 suspension.
But Brown showed flashes of brilliance in a rotational role in 2024, despite limited statistics. He lent size to a relatively smaller-framed group, and his snaps at nose tackle allowed captain Kobie Turner and rookie Braden Fiske more freedom to move around the line. Turning 25 in August with no real wear and tear on his body, Brown should have his best years ahead of him in the right situation.

How he fits
After the Patriots outbid the Panthers for Milton Williams, Carolina GM Dan Morgan pivoted to two other D-linemen — each with distinct skill sets. While Tershawn Wharton is a smallish pass rusher, Brown is a space-eating run stuffer who thinks the Rams underutilized his pass-rush ability. He might not get too many chances in Carolina behind Derrick Brown and Wharton, either, but he's young and could still be on the rise.

Hill ranked second on the Bengals in pressures, but his overall efficiency rushing the passer was below league average. The pass-rush production was stable over his career in Cincinnati, though, and his run defense remained above average.
The Bengals will likely prefer to go young at the position, but Hill is still a solid rotational three-technique who should attract attention in free agency.

How he fits
The Bengals weren’t turned off by Hill's age coming off a season where he graded 28th out of 143 qualifying interior defenders, per PFF. He represents one of the better moves by the Bengals' front office in recent years when they acquired him from the Giants and inked him to a three-year, $30 million deal, and now he gets a slight raise. The free-agent market at defensive tackle wasn’t exactly deep, so there was safety in sticking with what they knew.

Dyami Brown

Prev. team: Commanders Age: 25 Ht: 6-0 Wt: 195
Brown presents an extreme traits-versus-production dilemma. He has just 59 catches for 784 yards and four touchdowns in 63 career regular-season games. But in five games to finish the 2024 season (including three playoff games) he had 21 grabs, 301 yards and a touchdown, with several big plays.
Brown still needs development as a route runner, but his combination of size and vertical explosiveness is rare, and he’s excellent after the catch, doing damage on screens in Kliff Kingsbury’s offense. When new regimes inherit draft disappointments, they usually cut bait, but Brown fits Jayden Daniels’ game so well that Washington might be wise to keep him.

How he fits
The idea of Brown landing an eight-figure salary would have been stunning even a few months ago, but his strong finish to the season turned heads. His ability on screens fits great in Liam Coen's offense, which featured the best screen game in the NFL in Tampa in 2024, and he and Brian Thomas Jr. will back defenses off with their speed. Can Brown become a reliable down-to-down route runner? If so, he should cash in bigger next year.

Ojulari’s market will be fascinating. He has averaged 0.48 sacks per game during his career. Burns, who signed a five-year, $141 million contract with the Giants last spring, has averaged 0.56 sacks per game. Ojulari’s injury history is a significant factor that could limit him to a one-year deal.

Jones was released two years into a three-year, $51.5 million deal with the Seahawks after a disappointing tenure that included a position switch. An undersized defensive tackle in Denver, he moved to the edge for Seattle after injuries mounted midway through 2023, then shed weight and stayed there in 2024, but he remained a suspect run defender, whether outside or inside.
However, Jones is still a useful pass rusher, with a good combination of quickness, length, hand moves and the ability to line up anywhere. He doesn’t turn 29 until January and has been mostly healthy during his six-year career. He could re-establish himself by regaining weight and bumping back inside.

How he fits
The Titans already have Jeff Simmons, T'Vondre Sweat and Sebastian Joseph-Day on the interior, and they are very thin on the edge after releasing Harold Landry. That suggests Jones will continue to play on the edge, as he did in Seattle. Whether that would maximize his value is unclear. Either way, he should offer flexibility up and down the line in various packages on passing downs.

Hilton has long been viewed as one of the top slot corners in the NFL. His coverage skills have dipped in recent years, but his savvy, timing and tenacity have gone nowhere.
Hilton might still be the best blitzing slot in the league, and he made more plays than anyone on the defense over the final five-game win streak to close the season. Pro Football Focus graded him first (91.7) against the run, recording 38 stops (solo tackle for an offensive failure), good for second among CBs. He also had the lowest missed tackle rate (7.5 percent) among those with at least 20 total stops.
That type of production will always have a place in this league, even if there is a concern over coverage consistency.

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine

$6.5 million
Prev. team: Titans Age: 28 Ht: 6-2 Wt: 211
After finding a soft market last spring, Westbrook-Ikhine re-signed with the Titans for one year and $2 million. He should certainly draw a raise, but his evaluation is complicated. He had nine TDs on only 32 catches in 2024, and 98 of his 497 receiving yards came on one play (after a safety took a poor angle), oddities that are unlikely to recur.
Westbrook-Ikhine has a big frame and long strides to eat up ground, and he’s clearly a red zone weapon (10 TDs on 91 catches from 2021 to ‘23). He’s not as dominant at the catch point as his size would suggest, and he struggles to separate from man coverage without a free release, but his tools are intriguing if he keeps developing.

How he fits
Westbrook-Ikhine didn't draw a sizable deal despite his nine TDs in 2024, but he landed a two-year pact in Miami, where he'll bring a different element with his size and catch radius. With Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle drawing attention, Westbrook-Ikhine could have more opportunities for splash plays with the Dolphins.

His speed is an asset in pursuit and in coverage. Although he could improve his awareness in zone coverage, he excels at passing off routes in front of him, and he’s comfortable finding and playing the ball in the air. For teams that miss out on the upper-tier options, White could be a great consolation prize.

If you like aggressive defensive tackles who get upfield and disrupt, Collins is your guy. He's been consistently productive as a pass rusher, including 10 sacks and 30 QB hits combined over the past two seasons, and he will make some splash plays against the run, too.
So why isn't he higher here? For all of the splash plays, Collins gives up a lot, too. He frequently gets caught upfield and behind the play, both as a rusher and run defender. He struggles to anchor against double teams, too often getting washed out of his lane easily. He would fit best in a rotation as a pass-rush specialist, which would maximize his strengths.

Collins steps in after the Browns released Dalvin Tomlinson, but he's a completely different style of player and should not be expected to fill the same role. Paying eight figures annually to an undersized nickel corner approaching age 30 is risky, but Lewis is a quality player who is effective in man coverage. This move likely puts Darnell Savage — who has dabbled in the slot — back at safety full-time.

How he fits
Hoecht is likely to be a rotational player for the Bills based on his contract, but because they didn’t have much pass-rushing success from starter A.J. Epenesa last year (5.8 percent pressure rate), anything is on the table if they don’t add any other pieces to the defensive end room.
With his extremely versatile skill set, Hoecht could fill Dawuane Smoot’s role from last season. On early downs, Smoot would work at defensive end, but on obvious pass-rushing downs, Smoot would slide inside to defensive tackle.

There are two benefits to being Trent Williams’ backup at left tackle. 1) You get to learn from one of the best blockers in the league. 2) You get a lot of opportunities. Williams’ graybeard status means he doesn’t always practice on Wednesdays, which allows Moore to fill in with the starters. Williams has also missed nine starts over the past two seasons.
As a result, there’s plenty of game film on Moore whose forte is pass blocking. He’s played 279 pass-blocking snaps over the past two seasons and has surrendered two sacks. That, plus the fact that the draft isn’t teeming with offensive tackles, ought to earn him some attention in free agency.

How he fits
The Chiefs’ initial plan for free agency was to try to convince Ronnie Stanley to leave the Ravens to help protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Stanley, however, re-signed with Baltimore, forcing the Chiefs to pivot to acquiring Moore, who they see as an underrated and ascending player.
At age 27, Moore will become a first-time starter and have the role of protecting the blind side of Mahomes, the league’s most talented quarterback. The Chiefs are optimistic that Moore is ready for that responsibility after being a four-year understudy behind Trent Williams, one of the league’s best left tackles. In the past two seasons, Moore has played 279 pass-blocking snaps and has allowed just two sacks.

Melifonwu has never played more than 400 defensive snaps in a season, but his highs have been excellent, and his tools (6-3, 210 pounds with 4.48 speed and a 41 1/2-inch vertical) should draw some interest on the market.
A converted cornerback, Melifonwu thrived as an injury fill-in late in 2023, racking up five interceptions, eight pass breakups, 44 tackles and five sacks over the final seven games (including playoffs). He missed 14 games in 2024 because of an ankle injury, which could affect his market.

The Dolphins let Jevon Holland walk for huge money and took an upside bet on Melifonwu, a tremendous athlete who has looked like a potential star for stretches ... when he can stay healthy. At $3 million (with another $1 million available via incentives), this is a worthwhile flier. Melifonwu still needs a running mate, though, with Jordan Poyer a free agent.

Prev. team: Steelers Age: 29 Ht: 5-10 Wt: 180
Acquired via trade from Carolina last spring, Jackson was one of the NFL’s most opportunistic players, intercepting five passes and recovering a fumble. Given his role, he was a solid starter who was most effective in zone coverage with his eyes on the QB. He also displayed toughness, playing through shoulder and back injuries.
That said, his performance overall was more uneven than those interceptions would suggest. The Steelers would like to upgrade in the secondary, but a return is certainly possible.

How he fits
Jackson is an outside corner who is best in zone, and that is likely what made him attractive to the Chargers. Last season, under coordinator Jesse Minter, no team in the NFL played more zone coverage than the Chargers, according to TruMedia. Jackson has 13 interceptions and 36 passes defended in zone coverage in his career. In man, he has two interceptions and eight passes defended.
The Chargers signed Kristian Fulton as a reclamation project last offseason, and he played well in Minter’s zone-heavy scheme. The Chargers will be looking for similar results with Jackson.

How he fits
Najee Harris left for L.A., and Cordarrelle Patterson, who is an Arthur Smith favorite but turns 34 on Monday, is a cut candidate. Gainwell adds a dynamic back to the rotation and could carve out a role on third down.
This move likely won’t prevent the Steelers from dipping into a deep and talented running back draft class, where they might find their next true lead back.

He excels most as a pass catcher, becoming a big-play threat and matchup weapon (go rewatch the Lions game) at times for the Bills, even though starter James Cook is no slouch as a receiver. Johnson could stand to be more consistent in protection, but he could impress in a larger role.

The Bills’ faith in Johnson has grown, to the point where they made him their clear third-down back in passing and two-minute drill situations in 2024. His explosiveness was obvious, and he even gave them some great runs against light boxes.

Robinson will be part of the puzzle to replace Deebo Samuel. He doesn’t have tremendous size or speed, but especially later in his career, he’s been able to get open cleanly in tight spaces, which Kyle Shanahan always wants. - Player B: 3,801 passing yards, 22 TDs, 13 INTs, 92.5 rating, 28 sacks, 0.04 EPA/dropback
Player A was … Bo Nix in 2024, with Sean Payton as his play caller, an elite pass-protecting offensive line and Courtland Sutton as his top receiver. (Nix also rushed for 430 yards and four TDs.) Player B was Jones as a rookie in 2021, with Josh McDaniels calling plays, a decent O-line and Jakobi Meyers as his WR1.
Having Matt Patricia as OC and Joe Judge as QB coach, as Jones did in 2022, might have broken many QBs. He might never be more than a backup at this point, but it’s hard to fault him entirely, and there might still be value here. Joining the 49ers to back up Brock Purdy would make perfect sense.

There was good reason to speculate that Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers liked Jones in the run-up to the draft four years ago. It was true. Chaisson will join an edge group that includes incumbents Keion White and Anfernee Jennings plus new signee Harold Landry, and it wouldn't be surprising if New England drafted a player early at the position, either. With Milton Williams and potentially Christian Barmore also pass-rush options on the inside, Chaisson will have to impress to earn a role on obvious passing downs. Even with no guarantees after Year 1, this is a strong deal for Hobbs, who will make $18.2 million in 2025 and would offer little savings against the cap if cut next offseason. That price tag suggests he'll play outside CB, even if his best play has been inside.

Mariota loved playing for the Commanders last season. After bouncing around — Washington was his fourth team in four years — this new stop provided the former Heisman winner with a comfort level not felt in some time. The feeling was mutual, and now he'll remain Jayden Daniels' backup for another year.

The quarterback market stays the same every year, it seems, and somehow it’s mediocre enough that some team is always considering Winston. The book on him at 31 hasn’t changed much. He has a huge arm and a flair for the dramatic. Last year, in seven starts for the Browns, Winston threw for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and was sacked 24 times.

This season didn’t go as Brissett wanted. He was the starting quarterback out of training camp, but the Patriots switched to rookie Drake Maye more quickly than Brissett expected, pulling the veteran after Week 5.
Even if Brissett’s numbers leave plenty to be desired, it’s fair to note that his setup was terrible, as the Patriots’ bad offensive line was still trying to figure things out early. Maybe he’ll get another chance to start one day, but he might have to sign a deal as a high-level backup this offseason.

How he fits
Brissett will back up Kyler Murray and reunite with Drew Petzing, who was Cleveland's QBs coach when Brissett started 11 games for the Browns in 2022. Murray has mostly stayed healthy aside from his torn ACL suffered in 2022, but even if Brissett doesn't play, he should bring value as a teammate with an excellent reputation.

Judon netted the Patriots a third-round pick via trade last August, but the four-time Pro Bowler might be near the end. Coming off a torn biceps suffered in 2023, he had perhaps the worst season of his career with the Falcons. His pressure rate (8.1 percent) was the worst of any edge defender in our top 150, and many of his pressures came on clean-ups or QB scrambles. Perhaps it was just a blip, but Judon turns 33 in August. He might have to be patient.

But that’s the catch: Blackmon hasn’t been able to stay healthy. He’s suffered significant injuries throughout his career, and after returning to Indianapolis on a one-year deal last offseason, his latest injury muddies his market yet again.

Barton had a strong statistical season with Denver, but is he worth $7 million annually? Ernest Jones, whom the Titans acquired last August and then traded away in October, re-signed with Seattle for less than $10 million annually and is a much more well-rounded player.

Rams head coach Sean McVay was very public about his hope that Garoppolo, who signed a one-year deal in 2024 to back up Stafford, would return in 2025. Garoppolo was also a possible option to start for the Rams in the coming season if they could not work an agreement out with Stafford during his contract dispute, league sources said at that time. McVay and general manager Les Snead also noted that they’d like to get a young developmental quarterback in the room as early as possible to learn from Stafford — which could mean drafting one.

Bozeman's deal is worth up to $12 million via incentives, but the $6.5 million base value indicates he's not a definite starter. The Giants already have their starting edge players in Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns, but with free agent Azeez Ojulari’s return unlikely, Golston can take over the role as the third man up in that rotation.

Prev. team: Vikings Age: 34 Ht: 6-0 Wt: 190
The Vikings played more man coverage in Week 17 against the Packers than they had in a game all season. In the locker room afterward, Gilmore looked spent. He played a fill-in role admirably in 2024, but he is not the man-cover corner he once was.
His level of experience and processing speed on the field will garner interest if he chooses to play another season, though retirement is not out of the question.

Prev. team: Vikings Age: 26 Ht: 6-4 Wt: 264
Jones posted a career-high seven sacks in 2024, though a knee injury sidelined him down the stretch. His season was not too dissimilar from the 2023 campaign of D.J. Wonnum, who signed a two-year, $12.5 million deal with the Panthers last spring. Jones fits best in a four-down front where his primary role is to rush the passer. Brian Flores also utilized him on the interior, where he gave guards and centers trouble as a pass rusher.

How he fits
Jones gives off strong D.J. Wonnum vibes — from his build to the fact he played the same OLB position as Wonnum in the Vikings’ 3-4 defense — and now he'll follow Wonnum to Carolina. The Panthers still need a young, high-upside edge rusher, but that might have to wait for the draft. Jones at least provides another option in the rotation.

How he fits
MVS had a productive stretch as a deep threat in New Orleans with OC Klint Kubiak. Now he'll join Kubiak in Seattle, as the Seahawks needed a speedster to stretch defenses vertically after trading DK Metcalf and releasing Tyler Lockett. Seattle still needs more help at receiver, but this is a good fit.

Reclamation QBs are hot after the resurgences of Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield and Geno Smith, and Lance still has the traits to merit a roll of the dice. The problem is it might be more like buying a Powerball ticket.
Kyle Shanahan’s system elevates almost every QB, but Lance lasted only eight games (four starts) with the 49ers, then failed to usurp Cooper Rush in Dallas.
All of that said: He’s three months younger than Bo Nix and only seven months older than Jayden Daniels. Lance has attempted only 461 pass attempts in college and the NFL combined, less than 16 QBs had in 2024 alone. At the very least, his talent merits a roster spot and more time to develop.

Brown turned into Washington’s No. 2 receiver in 2024 before suffering a season-ending kidney injury in the Week 13 win over Tennessee. He finished with 35 receptions for 453 yards and one of the most famous touchdowns in franchise history, catching a Hail Mary from Jayden Daniels on the final play to beat Chicago in Week 8. The Commanders love playing man coverage under Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt, and now they have several versatile options to do so. Jones can play outside, in the slot or even safety. Given the money being thrown around at other guards, this could be a bargain for Arizona, after Brown was part of a quietly strong offensive line in 2024. That group will return largely intact, with Kelvin Beachum also back, though Will Hernandez (who tore his ACL in October) remains a free agent.

He also took two penalties.
All of that said, Humphries is only 31 and had several years of passable left tackle play before tearing his ACL late in the 2023 season. It's not unreasonable to think he could return to that level of play in 2025, another year removed from the injury.

Williams was one of Justin Herbert’s favorite options through the QB's first four NFL seasons, a great match for Herbert’s arm strength because of his 50-50 ball prowess and ability to make clutch catches. Williams will be in a different offense under Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman, but the built-in chemistry with Herbert will make that transition easier. The Chargers still need an X receiver of the future, but Williams can be the contingency plan for now.
