Paros, Greece Weather and Climate – Climate for Cities (2024)

Geographical location

Paros and Naxos are Greek islands in the Aegean Sea and belong to the popular island group of the Cyclades.

Both islands have less than 20,000 inhabitants, Paros is located west of Naxos and is about half the size. The two Cyclades islands are only separated from each other by a narrow strip of sea. In the middle of the island of Paros there are two peaks about 750 meters high.

Naxos is the largest island in the Cyclades. The Greek word kýklos means circle and describes the circular arrangement of the archipelago, which, depending on the definition and interpretation, between 12 and 20 islands. The outlying islands are appropriately grouped together as “scattered islands” (Sporades).

Besides Paros and Naxos, Mykonos, Santorin, Amorgos, Ios and Koufonissi are the most important “pearls of the Cyclades”. Island hopping, i.e. the combination of several Greek islands, is not only possible in this region, it is also one of the preferred modes of travel.

Climate on Paros and Naxos

The climate in the Cyclades can be described as consistently Mediterranean. The summers on the islands in the Aegean Sea are usually very hot and very dry, while the winter tends to be rainy with mild temperatures. Compared to other regions of Greece, the winter in the Aegean is very mild at around 15 ° C, but sometimes heavy rainfall can occur.

Paros, Naxos and the other Cyclades islands are particularly affected by the Meltémi wind in summer, which begins after the almost windless month of May in the course of June and between July and August can cause a stiff breeze, especially in the afternoon. For bathing vacationers, these north winds make their stay very pleasant, as the intense heat is pleasantly softened.

Windsurfers and sailors especially love these weather conditions. As early as mid- April, the daytime temperatures regularly crack the 20 degree mark, it is mostly cloudless and sunny. But it wasn’t until June that the average daytime temperatures reached 26 degrees and more. The Aegean reaches wonderful water temperatures between 22 and 25 degrees between the beginning of June and the end of October.

After sunset it can get fresher in the evening at any time of the year, but in midsummer the nighttime temperatures of around 22 degrees are perceived as very pleasant. Most of the precipitation falls between December and March, and between June and September you have to expect almost no rain in the Cyclades. We also offer detailed climate tables separately for Santorini and Mykonos.

When to go to Paros and Naxos?

Basically, summer is the ideal time for your Cyclades vacation. April is suitable for walks and relaxing days with good wine, delicious delicacies and the Mediterranean atmosphere. May already brings plenty of sunshine and the flora is in full bloom. In June there is perfect summer weather, although it is usually not too hot.

July and August are absolute midsummer and the main travel time in the Cyclades. The temperatures are high, and so are the overnight prices. September is an exciting month of transition, which is a little more volatile, but still quite suitable for bathing. In October the season on Paros and Naxos slowly ends, but the weather can still be very friendly on most days.

We recommend the months of June to the beginning of October as the best travel time for Paros and Naxos (Cyclades).
