About the Scholarships Office
The Scholarships Office promotes and awards University scholarship funds to deserving students. The goal is to assist in lessening the financial burden that many students seek to overcome. Scholarship information (criteria, application and deadline) is offered for each scholarship awarded. NEIU Foundation Scholarships
The Northeastern Illinois University Foundation annually awards thousands of dollars in scholarships and awards supported by the generous contributions of University alumni, faculty, staff and friends. Some scholarships are based on financial need. Some are merit-based, awarded to students whose ability to contribute to campus life is significant because of their academic potential or talent in a particular field. How to Apply
- Apply online.Some scholarships may have a priority deadline of April 15.
- For the General Application, submit (upload) current resume or listing highlighting extracurricular activities, leadership positions held, academic honors, community service,employmentetc.
- Respond to the required essay question (250 word minimum).

Chicago Star Scholar
In recognition of the educational excellence of Chicago's Star Scholarship students, City Colleges of Chicago(CCC)Star Scholars who gradate from CCC with an associate degree and a minimum GPA of a 3.0 will be admitted to Northeastern Illinois University and will be eligible to receive an NEIU Star Scholar Award. Brommel Doctoral Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to support doctoral study for alumni who have received either bachelor’s or master’s degrees from Northeastern Illinois University who meet the specified criteria as stipulated by the donor, Dr. Bernard J. Valued at more than$60,000 during the course of four academic years, the Presidential Scholarship covers full in-state tuition, fees, and provides a book allowance. Each year, six new Presidential Scholars are selected.
Established in 2000, the first Northeastern Illinois University Presidential Scholarship was awarded to a recipient who after graduating from NEIU, attended and completed law school and is now a practicing attorney in Chicago.The Presidential Scholarship Program attracts graduating high school seniors who demonstrate strong academic promise from the Chicago metropolitan and suburban areas.Through the support of this scholarship students are able to concentrate on their academic studies and be engaged in college life.
Recipients of this scholarship major in academic fields such as business, music, social work, chemistry, education, biologyand psychology, just to name a few.Presidential Scholars receive automatic admission into the University Honors Program, take advantage of study abroad opportunities, and are involved in a variety of student organizations on campus, which enhance their leadership skills and commitment to service learning. This opportunity is open to incoming beginning freshman only. The application deadline is March 15.

NEIU Phi theta kappa scholarship
- Minimum 3.5 GPA and an A.A. or A.S. degree.
- Student must also be a full-time residentof Illinois.
- Enroll at NEIU immediately following completion of associate degree (in the fall).
- Pursuing first bachelor’s degree.
- Provide a letter of recommendation from Phi Theta Kappaadvisor to confirm members and active participation in college’s PTK chapter.
The scholarship covers tuition (not fees) for the first 60 credit hours at NEIU. A recipient must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and participate in the University Honors Program. The deadline to apply is June 3. The scholarship is awarded in the fall only.

Merit, Talent, andOpportunity Scholarships
The College of Arts andSciences, College of Business andManagement, Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education, Nontraditional Degree Programs, and the University Honors Programs offer merit awards for high achieving students. NIH MARC U-STAR PROGRAM
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) MARC U-STAR Program is for students who are interested in pursuing doctoral degrees in biomedical/behavioral research after graduation from NEIU. The program offers research training throughout the year, summer research opportunities, travel to conferences, as well as a monthly stipend and tuition coverage for two years.

Our university awards over 1,500 scholarships annually based on a variety of factors, including academic achievement, talent, leadership, geographical location, field of study, and financial need.
Odds of Winning a Scholarship
Only about 1 in 8 college students wins a scholarship, and the average amount used to pay for college is about $4,200 a year. Very few students win $25,000 or more in scholarships each year (only about 0.1%).
To be considered for a full-tuition scholarship, candidates must qualify for admission to the University of Chicago and be children (or legally adopted children) of sworn Chicago Fire Fighters and Chicago Police Officers who will remain active for the duration of their children's college careers.

Many colleges and scholarship providers look at your unweighted GPA. Scholarship providers usually ask for GPA between 3.5 to 4.0 to attract high achieving students.
This last scholarship is the best of the UIUC scholarships, covering the full cost of attendance for four years! That's right, it's a full ride, and selection is based on “demonstrate high levels of academic achievement, strong leadership, involvement, and community service”.

Middle-income students won 13.8% of scholarships compared with 10.6% of low-income students. 8% of the scholarships were awarded to upper income students. 10% of private school students win private scholarships worth $2,631. 3% of public school students win private scholarships worth $3,463.
Less than 1 percent of students get full ride scholarships, showing just how difficult it is to earn one. However, with the right background, proper planning and by knowing where to look, your chances of landing a full ride scholarship can increase.
Scholarship Winner Application Averages
For those that want solid numbers, on average, many of the students I work with are applying for anywhere between 3-7+ scholarships, each, per week. Some weeks those numbers are much higher, and other weeks students are preparing or taking the week off to recharge mentally.
The University of Chicago is not an Ivy League school. The Ivy League is an athletic conference consisting of Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell, Columbia, Yale, and the University of Pennsylvania. Since their founding in 1954, the Ivies have also gained prominence for academic and research excellence.
The Chicago Promise Scholarship and Catholic Heritage Scholarship will each provide a $20,000 scholarship to any CPS graduate or graduate of one of Illinois' Catholic high schools, respectively, who has a high school grade point average of 3.7 or higher and is admitted to DePaul as a full-time freshman.
You should also have a 4.48 GPA or higher. If your GPA is lower than this, you need to compensate with a higher SAT/ACT score. For a school as selective as University of Chicago, you'll also need to impress them with the rest of your application.
