The Masked Singer Unveils Oscar-Nominated Actress and '90s Rapper in Double Elimination
The Masked Singer's latest episode left viewers in awe with a double reveal that shocked the audience.
In the Jan. 20 episode, two stars were eliminated, bidding farewell to the characters Handyman and Scarab. The question on everyone's mind was: Who were the celebrities behind the elaborate costumes?
Handyman, the first to go, left a trail of clues, including a video hinting at his unique presence, "I’ve been known to stand out." He then revealed a painful accident that changed his voice overnight, but he didn't let it stop him. His voice became a sensation, heard everywhere from radio to movies and even children's shows.
The judges were intrigued by a bear wearing an 'I Love the 90s' shirt and an ice microphone. As Handyman performed 'Can I Kick It' by A Tribe Called Quest, the candy wrappers on stage confirmed the celeb's identity as a rapper. Jenny McCarthy correctly guessed Chuck D from Public Enemy, while Ken Jeong and Rita Ora also joined the chase, but it was Robin Thicke who identified the voice, revealing it was Tone Loc, the 'Funky Cold Media' rapper.
Host Nick Cannon celebrated Tone's hit, 'Wild Thing,' and the Grammy-nominated rapper's joy at participating in the show. He shared that his children dared him to join, and he had a great time, proving that age is just a number as he's 59 and still having fun.
But the '90s rapper wasn't the only star to bid farewell. Scarab, an Oscar-nominated actress, also revealed her identity. Her clue segment featured a small rocket ship, hinting at her Hollywood success and Oscar nomination. Her father's prediction came true, and despite his passing before the ceremony, she found strength in his memory.
Scarab's emotional rendition of Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' showcased her talent. Her final clue, a roll of cookie dough, symbolized her determination to rise above challenges. The judges were surprised by her elimination, with Robin switching his guess from Sheryl Lee Ralph to Regina King, Jenny sticking with Angela Bassett, Ken noting the green and pink in her costume, and Rita correctly identifying Taraji P. Henson, the 'Empire' actress and 2009 Oscar nominee for 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.'
Nick Cannon welcomed Taraji with laughter, calling her the most decorated celebrity on the show. She expressed her enjoyment of the experience, despite her elimination, and her confidence in the mask, as it allowed her to express herself freely without judgment.
The Masked Singer continues to captivate audiences, leaving them eager to uncover the mysteries behind the masks.
