What is a grade point average (GPA) and how is it calculated?
Your GPA is the average of the grades obtained in all courses studied at the University of Adelaide, weighted by the unit value of each course. If you are enrolled in more than one program you will have a GPA for each program. GPAs range from a minimum of zero to a maximum ofseven (scale of 0 to 7). Your GPA is available on your academic transcript. As a current student, you can view your unofficial academic transcript through MyAdelaidebyclicking on ‘Academic results and transcripts’. Note that your GPA is automatically re-generated overnight, so if any changes are made to your transcript (for example exam results coming out), you will need to wait overnight for the GPA to update.
For an internal transfer application to a new program, your GPA can only be used once you have completed a minimum of four courses (one semester full-time (or part-time equivalent)) in a program. After your internal transfer has been approved, you will begin to accruea new GPA for the new program. Both GPAs from each program appear on your official academic transcript.
For students studying a Bachelor (Advanced) program, please note you must earn and maintain a certain GPA in a teaching period to remain in the program. Please refer to theLearning and Teaching website for further details.
PLEASE NOTE:
No GPA is calculated for the following programs: Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Medical Studies, Bachelor of Dental Surgery and Bachelor of Oral Health. In these programs, academic assessment for all core courses is done on a non-graded basis.
In addition, no GPA is calculated for students enrolled in research or non award programs, or for students who were enrolled in their program prior to 2002.
